G. Stuart Mendenhall, M.D. is an expert in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, specializing in implanted device management (pacemakers, defibrillators, and other cardiac monitors), and the diagnosis and treatment of all cardiac arrhythmias.  At Scripps Memorial-La Jolla, Dr. Mendenhall has access to the state-of-the art equipment for complex procedures such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablations, such as use of the cryoballoon and excimer laser for lead (pacemaker or defibrillator wires) extractions.

In his clinical practice Dr. Mendenhall works closely with his patients to ensure that they make the most informed clinical decisions possible through education.  He strongly believes in personalized medicine, with close attention to the values of each individual patient.  When it comes time for procedures, he performs all needed procedures with expert precision and attention to safety and detail.

As a researcher, Dr. Mendenhall is focused on making cardiac devices "smarter," and has numerous published articles on device management, analysis of device signals, and the advanced detection of cardiac conditions from both minimally invasive and non-invasive (worn on body) techniques, which he sees as an integral pat of the future of medicine.

Dr. Mendenhall went to college at Harvard University and was a concentrator in Chemistry and Physics.  After graduation he studied at the Harvard-MIT Health Science and Technology medical degree program at Harvard Medical School, earning his MD in the early 2000's, and continuing on to residency at Boston's Beth-Israel Deaconess hospital.

Dr. Mendenhall has been practicing cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology since 2011.  He is a fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and American College of Cardiology.  He is a member of multiple national advisory committees and working groups including the HRS digital strategy and health policy committees.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Mendenhall is a private airplane pilot and previously flew himself every week to an underserved outreach clinic.  He is an avid classical musician and pianist, performing local chamber music.  He enjoys skiing, bicycling, and is learning to surf here in La Jolla.
